CROWNS - A GOSPEL MUSICAL

If you’re an African-American woman you already know the cherished tradition of wearing that perfect hat for Sunday church. “Crowns: Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats” explores this tradition with delightful narratives and photographs from 50 black women.  Based on the acclaimed book of photographs and interviews, Crowns: Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats (Doubleday, 2000), Crowns is now an award-winning musical play!

...The Pittsburgh musical will feature Pittsburgh's own  Etta Cox!

You'll dance in the aisles during this theatrical sensation about a cherished custom that fuses faith and fashion. It's a joyous celebration of African American women and their fabulous church hats: wide-brimmed, pill box, fussy and feathery alike. Hats that flirt, hats that scold, hats that praise, hats that grieve, hats that bring power and hats that sing! A stand-up-and-testify musical, it's brimming with "hattitude," riveting stories, dance, jazz, blues and glorious gospel music.

"A soul-stirring, hip-swaying spectacle…a made-to-order
  crowd- pleaser!"
