Once again, in the spirit of the holiday season,
The Shona Sharif African Dance and Drum Ensemble
is proud to present a
Musical inspired by Langston Hughes – Nativity: A Christmas Gift.
Like Black Nativity, Nativity: A Christmas Gift tells the story of the birth of Jesus through traditional West African dance and gospel and hymnal music; while act two takes us to the shores of America, where the idea of Christmas is reflected upon.
Nativity: A Christmas Gift is meant to explore the Christmas season with joy, love, and happiness. It builds upon Langston Hughes take on the Nativity scene and the African-American church experience. Through African oral tradition and 20th century spirituals, we hope to bring a new and invigorating spin to this ancient tale. So, come join us as we dance, sing, and laugh.
Come experience Nativity: A Christmas Gift.
