The ingredients to a great evening; 1) Location; 2) Entertainment; 3) Food; 4) Audience; 5) Easy on the pockets Price.
Sunday's 1st Hip Hop Buffet of the 2007 season had it all. The easy on the pocket price which included the location of the intimately casual and classy ambience of the Shadow Lounge. The performance list had a selection of the best local and regional rap artists and topping it all off, a buffet of tasty food for all.
It's sad some of ya'll missed an exciting evening filled with rap and hip hop music; a chance to network with other artists and producers; and an enough floor space to get your dance on. This series is organized by Just Pressin Buttons Productions, Inc. (JPB, Inc.) I was greeted at the door by the lady herself, datbuttonpusha. She oozed of energy and excitement as she explained to me the Mission of the Hip Hop Buffet series and her PCTV Show Ripple Effect. The mission is simply to bring real hip hop music back into the main stream, to showcase Pittsburgh and surrounding area talent pool. Her goal is to also groom artists to enable them to be able to handle themselves professionally in all aspects of the music business.
The Hip Hop Series not only showcases local talent but talent from all over the country. Sunday night Nuff Sed from Columbus, Ohio was on the ticket bringing it on. His hair styled in a Mohawk, complimented his individual rap style. It worked as he had the audience on their feet.
With each group performance dabuttonpusha could be heard mixed in the crowd pumping it up, this was truly an audience participation event. Among the audience favorites was Link in collaboration with Minister X, rapping a positive piece; No Doubt Records represented; Mel-Jay of Organizd Crhyme performed a show stopper I'm a Rock Star. Apex gave a twist to the rap performance with a young lady leading with strong lyrical skills.
Each performer gave their all and made it hard for the audience to vote for their evening favorites. After each event the audience will have to the chance to vote for their favorite artist and in February 2008 JPB, Inc. will hold their first award show giving props to the groups with the most votes.
JPB, Inc. has made this unique venue available to groups needing a place to showcase their talents. If you're interested in participating in the series contact JPB, Inc.
Next month in May another Hip Hop Buffet will be held at the Shadow Lounge. Please come out and support those who are making it their business to bring to you the best in Hip Hop and Rap.
Meanwhile turn watch Ripple Effects on Tuesday nights on PCTV 21 at 11:00pm.
